Air Fryer Frozen Foods Chart (Times and Temperatures)
Printable air fryer times and temperatures for frozen fries, nuggets, wings and pizza, plus the safe internal temperatures worth checking.
Frozen food is the reason most people keep an air fryer on the counter. No thawing, no oil, no waiting for a big oven to heat up — fries come out crisp in the time a microwave would make them soggy.
The catch is that your machine is not my machine. Basket size, wattage and how close the element sits to the food all shift the clock by a few minutes. So every number below is a range, and every range assumes a single layer in a preheated basket.
Times vary by appliance model — use a thermometer, not the clock, as your final check.
The rule that beats every time on this chart
A time range tells you when to start looking. It never tells you whether food is safe. Only an instant-read thermometer does that, and it should go into the thickest part, away from bone and fat.
| Frozen food | Safe internal temperature |
|---|---|
| Breaded chicken nuggets, wings, tenders | 165°F / 74°C |
| Breaded fish fillets, fish sticks | 145°F / 63°C |
| Frozen meatballs (beef or pork) | 160°F / 71°C |
| Frozen meatballs (chicken or turkey) | 165°F / 74°C |
| Frozen shrimp, cooked from frozen | 145°F / 63°C |
| Frozen vegetables | No minimum — cook to texture |
| Reheated leftovers of any kind | 165°F / 74°C |
Frozen pizza and frozen vegetables are the two categories where texture, not safety, is the target. Everything breaded around meat or fish needs the thermometer.

Pizza and cheese sticks are the two items that go from right to ruined in under a minute. Stand next to the machine for those.
Frozen fries: three shapes, three timings
Shoestring fries are thin, so they crisp fast and dry out fast. Waffle fries have more surface area and hold heat unevenly, which is why they sit between shoestring and steak cut. Steak-cut fries are thick enough that the inside needs real time — if you pull them at 12 minutes you get a hot, raw center.
For all three: preheat first, spread them in one layer, and shake the basket at least once. A pile of fries steams. Steamed fries are pale and limp no matter how long you leave them.
Frozen chicken and fish: the thermometer foods
Breaded frozen chicken is the category where people guess most and get it wrong most. Nuggets and tenders look done — golden, crisp, hot — at internal temperatures well below 165°F / 74°C. Color is not a safety signal, and breading insulates the meat, so the outside always finishes first.
Push the probe in from the side of a nugget or the thickest end of a tender. If it reads under 165°F / 74°C, give it 2–3 more minutes and check again. Frozen fish fillets and fish sticks need 145°F / 63°C, and they overcook quickly once they pass it, so check early.
Five mistakes with frozen food
- Skipping the preheat. Frozen food drops basket temperature hard. Three minutes of preheat keeps the outside crisp.
- Overcrowding. Two layers means the middle layer steams. Cook in batches instead.
- Not shaking. Anything in a pile needs a shake every 8–10 minutes.
- Adding oil to breaded items. They are already coated. Oil makes the breading soggy.
- Trusting the package time. Package directions assume a different machine. Start at the low end and add minutes.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to thaw frozen food before air frying? No for fries, nuggets, wings, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fish, shrimp and vegetables — those are formulated to cook from frozen. Meatballs and anything you formed yourself should be thawed so the center cooks before the outside burns.
Why are my frozen fries still soft in the middle? Almost always overcrowding or a cold basket. Cook fewer at a time, preheat, and shake twice. Very thick steak-cut fries may also need 20–22 minutes rather than 18.
Can I stack mozzarella sticks? No. The coating needs direct hot air on all sides. Stacked sticks fuse into one mass and the cheese escapes.
Is a frozen personal pizza better in the air fryer or the oven? The air fryer, if the pizza fits flat with a little space around it. The crust crisps underneath in a way a baking sheet rarely manages.
